Cheers bud. I've got to say they're an absolute pleasure to paint and I'm really enjoying it and am really pleased with how they're turning out. I'm doing each man individually too as they have no uniform, which I think is helping as it's not so monotonous, though I'm trying to stick to the same few colours.

Very nice Toby.

Your painting sure has improved recently. I think the completion of your Dark Elves was good for your painting dedication. It proved to you that you can do it and do it well.

Well done mate. :)

Toby has always been able to paint to a reasonable standard, but he has aways been too lazy to do it!

Very true!
These models and the excitement and 'freshness' of a new system has helped a lot though and I find I really want to paint these guys up and it's not a case of having to paint them for an event. Like Sedge said I think the dark Elves helped too, had they not come out so well, I may have felt less inclined to continue painting.

Toby's painting is coming along very nicely, I have to report! He'll have a cracking army when he is done.

Bucca sent his son and Hersir, Thraun Buccason, east to Thornborough, the vale of thorns, where he was to set up camp and extend their domain. Upon their travel the Dragon men encountered an evil foe of men and horses and bows, the Normans had arrived!
Eager to win fame and standig with his father, Thraun rushed to battle however the Normans were faster and already awaited him in lines of battle. The two sides met in a area dictated by terain, to the Vikings left a pond fed into a small stream and was flanked by two woods, a hillock occupied the area behind the stream and upon it sat a unit of Norman bow and two of light cavalry. The woods extended out towards the center and another leaving the right flank of the ground flat and open, here the Hirdmen and Bondi lined up behind a screen of Thralls, with the Viking mercs prepared to move through the woods. The two units of Bondi bows set up to occupy the normans light cavalry and bow unit, while the remainder of the Norman force, two units of heavy cavalry, a unit of spear and a bow unit deployed opposite the main Viking force.
The sides surged forward with one of the light cav units moving to the centre, a volley of arrows were unleashed by both sides with the light cavalry taking a single loss to combined fire, the Normans proved better and drove a unit of Thralls and bowmen off the field. they then pressed home their advantage and the light cavalry crashed into the remaining bows and the second Thrall unit, which fled for their miserable lives. The Bondi bowmen proved the better though and despite falling back eventually drove the cavalry from the field. In response the line of norsemen surged forward driving the last of the light cav away and the central unit of bowmen scattered, not to return. Determined to regain the initiative the Norman Knights crashed into the Bondi and Viking mercs, who had moved up to hold the centre and had scared the Norman spears out of the woods, despite killing an equal number of Knights to their loses the mercs couldn't hold the charge and fled, refusing to rally until they were sure they were safe. The Bondi impaled the charging Knights on their wall of spears and then easily cut the rest down as they turned to flee, so eager were they to pursue the infidels that they surged down the flank of the remaining Norman force.
Now with victory in his grasp, Thraun charged at the Norman Count and his remaining retinue, who fled to the safety of behind the hill occupying bowmen, though the Viking mercs and Hirdmen were swarming to his location. His spearmen, showing mighty acts of courage that will be praised by the dragon people, held the rampant Bondi for long enough to ensure their lords safety. Seeing them fall though, the count finally fled the field leaving the Norse victorious!

This was a great game against a nasty army, though we learnt a important thing about WAB, you have to whittle large units down before trying to crash through them with cavalry or small units of elite infantry. I also forgot to deploy my third unit of bowmen in my list! Doh!

Nice write up. 8-)

Looking at last nights game I was surprised by how small both armies actually were. I imagined that they would be much bigger. It was explained however that both armies were exceptional in ther size due to John having expensive Cavalry and Toby having T4 (and hence expensive beardy!!!) troops.

Looks fun. :)
