Silver Skulls

Silver Skulls

Postby Jonny H » Feb 15th, '10, 17:53

So after the jump from Salamanders to Silver Skulls space marines, (lazy painting) I've adjusted my list. It's now being led by a Librarian to fit in with the chapter background.

What are the best two choices for his psychic powers?

Smite seems a no brainer, but which other?

A lot of it depends on what role you want him to have.
Null Zone is a pretty popular one in general, although I'm not sure how many invulnerable saves are usually kicking about the club. Possibly not that many.
Gate of Infinity might be the way to go, especially if you're mostly footslogging.

Vortex of Doom looks a giggle... I'll have to think hard on this one.

That very much looks like a anti-infantry list with anti-tank options, very similar to a list I'd make to be honest!

Is it 1500 points or 1000?

Well, speaking from my guardsmens point of view.

Initial thought: "Oh bleep so many infantry..... I'm outnumbered on foot."

First suggestion is, you're going to need to resign yourself to the fact that the dreadnaught is going to die. With it being the only vehicle in the list for example, it's going to be target numero uno for my Manticore.

Your bikes are going to be a pain if the multi melta hits. I'd suggest for security that you should look for a way to throw in a cheap combi melta or melta gun or something as well. Sods law says that your multi melta will get off one good shot and it'll miss.

For the terminators, I'd suggest either deepstriking them with the librarian, or doing what John (Stocko?) does and use the teleporter-ey librarian power.

With a lot of infantry and one proper vehicle, you'll really need to make use of cover. Every anti tank weapon is going to be aiming at your infantry now. Not really a criticism of the list, it's just something worth thinking about.

I've kind of fallen out wit heavy bolters personally, but that is likely just cause of guardsmen accuracy crappiness. Replacing them with missile launchers would concern me more. Again, that might just be cause of guardsmen thoughts.

Last comment, though I really don't want to be saying this. Don't underestimate your bolters! The worst thing you can do against a shooty army is stay in your backline and try to get into a heavy weapon shootout with them. Get into bolter range, even if it's the single shot range. Then feel free to open up with your heavy weapon tacticals in the next turn.

How do you want to play the army?
Do you see it as a stand back and shoot army, if yes I think you need to get some more Heavy Weapons, Devastators with Missile Launchers are great value for the points, maybe an additional Dread.

If you wanna play "Up close & personal" (my fave way with Marines), get some Rhinos, drop Heavy weapons in Tactical squads, give serg's all Melta bombs, keep tactical squads either Melta or Flamer. Drive up to 12", Rapid fire.

Mixed tactics Marines dont work very well imho, Marines are the masters of short range fire 8-)
