but hey - I've had one game of LOTR against Pete and it definately taught me a few things: 1 - Courage seems to be key, 2 - A high Defense is nigh-on-mandatory if you want ur unit to survive, 3 - moving those company trays around is a pain with terrain and 4 - Uruk hai are fecking hard.
Also its a good time to point out that i wont be taking citadel guard as when i used them - they fell apart to a unit of Uruk scouts, D5 meant that they're 35pts cost wasnt justified and they never showed they're F4 and S4 so they're out, deffo out.
Also I wont be taking Numernorians anymore - the extra dice from the extra fight value isnt enough to justify the drop in defence especially when with that xtra dice im still only going to be making good use of it 16% of the time with S3 - So they're out too.
The warriors of Minas Tirith didnt really exceed my expectations but then i wasnt expecting them to do much - and they didn't - kill count was pathetic and the only redeeming feature is the D7 - I will be keeping them but i dont expect them to actually do any damage against anything other than goblins, but thats what core units are for - numbers not damage - or have I been playing Vampire counts too much...
The star of the game would have to be without a doubt the bowmen - these guys picked up a hobbit in turn 1 and did practically nothing else all game as they were on the extrem flank but in turn 5 they suddenly woke up and from nowhere destroyed a unit of Uruk sappers and a siege ballista in two turns - the hilarity of this alone is enough to make me keep them in. Now I know they wont do much - archery doesnt in this game but i dont think it would feel right without them.
Alongside the narcaleptic archers and the rubber chicken wielding warriors, appearing at the next battle will be the treeman (Its actually beeping painted!!!) Im aware that I made a huge mistake sticking it on the far left of the board in setup but it was my first game so i beg your forgivness
So Riders of Rohan are the best in the game are they??? - well they have yet to prove that to me and I'm willing to give them another chance as I realise my mistake in how I used them - but then again I was very cramped for space which leads back to my point number 3. I do see the potential in these guys and I hope they can justify their title of horse-lords - so for now judgement is reserved.
That just about sums up my forces - leaving just heroes - well i say heroes I mean hero... Elendil is my 'chosen one' not only does he have a fight value of 10 million but Narsil's bonus of +2 to the dice rolls of his company is more appealling than a naked Angelina Jolie lying on a red leather couch and Im thinking about this too much... lost my train of thought now... oh yeah - Elendils staying because Angelina jolie likes red or something. But I dont think i can really justify the points cost of another hero - so its just the one, although if one hero is chosen then you have to pretty much forget about Might unless you captains - but I didnt think that (again) points could be justified, so Im having to rely on basic, unmodifiable rolls. Which i suppose makes learning the game a bit easier but thats not really relevant when learning from sedge - as you get taught ALL the rules in one game, so best learning trousers on!
Finally after a bit of a long-winded intro heres the list I think I shall be presenting at the next game. As usual any thoughts and comments are welcome - but if anyone wants to correct me on my spelling then they can feck off
Elendil
4 companies of Minas Tirith Warriors
4 companies of Minas Tirith Warriors
4 companies of Minas Tirith Warriors
4 companies of Minas Tirith Warriors
