Rus WAB blog

Right.

I have now got my grubby mitts on the Byzantium: Beyond the Golden Gate book. Once I've read it, I'll wow and dismay you all with my all-powerful Rus army of Stilton Death.... :twisted:

Actually, it's more likely to be an early Rus foot army, but I'll decide this over the weekend.

Does that mean we're on for Monday then bud? 1k or 1200?
Myself and John played 1200 on monday and it does allow for a few extra troops (obviously), well actually it equates to at least one additional unit.

Can I let you know Sunday evening? I may struggle for proxy figures, as the only 20mm stuff I have is one unit of gobbos....unless you want to fight against pieces of paper...

There are four choices of Rus list:
Early Pagan (750-950) no cav;
Princes(950-1100) at least 25% cav;
Great Rus (1100-1200) at least 50% cav;
Mongol Invasion (1200-1250) at least 50% cav, skimishers with xbows!

So at the moment leaning towards the first two, as the first can morph into the second fairly easily.

Haven't had a chance to read it properly yet, as I'm at work (damn it!). the light cav I have access to (ignoring Allies) are Expert Riders, and have Parthian Shot :)

Princes would fit in with Toby, Scotty and myself - as we are all 1066 'classic' armies.

Oh joy, expert riders & parthian shot. Guess who's gonna get shot at!
I agree with John though, Princes seems to be the right sort of time frame for the other armies about at the moment.

I've got loads of 20mil based figures we can use bud.

Oh, and doubt it would take much to adjust it to Great Rus. I'm looking to adapt my Normans to a Flanders theme. I lose ferocious charge but my foot gain shieldwall!

I'm most likely to do Princes, as I like having cavalry, but I think a 50%+ cav force might be a bit OTT for the the armies the rest of you have.

I wouldn't worry too much about us bud, Johns Norman force can be mostly cavalry, it's just that Princes is the exact same time period, with great Rus being slightly later.

WAB Cavalry arn't the same as WHFB cavalry. Most have no rank bonus and those that do usally only have +1. You need to time when you use them, as I found out.... :oops:

Another 'interesting' option is wedges, both for cav and infantry :D. Unlike the Bretonnian ones, these have flanks.
